Fall is finally in full swing and the trout are coming north in droves. With each cold front the water temperature will continue to drop and the trout will group up on reefs and points waiting for the bait to come to them.
Currently at the end of October there are still a lot of school trout chasing shrimp in Lake Mechant and Sister Lake. The birds will show you the way. The trout are slowly starting to stage near their winter holes in the marsh but we are still a few weeks away before they are there thick enough to spend time searching for them. A good rule of thumb is once the water is consistently under 65 degrees then take a look in the marsh for those trout. Until then fish cuts and points on the northern sides of the lakes on the falling tides for the most consistent catch. Double rigged Matrix and Vortex shad under the birds will be the ticket and Shrimp Creole Matrix under a cork will fishing the points, cuts, and reefs.
Toward the end of the month put away the double rigs and throw a single 1/4oz golden eye jighead with a Green Hornet Matrix in the marsh.
